Brian Cook received his PhD in Theatre Arts from the University of Oregon in 2012, and his MA from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and King’s College, London in 2005. Recent theatre credits include directing April de Angelis’ Playhouse Creatures, Phil Morton’s Peppermint Mocha, Caryl Churchill’s Far Away and Doug Wright’s Wildwood Park; stage managing Shakespeare’s As You Like It; dramaturging Burning Vision by Marie Clements, and sound and video designer for Shakespeare’s Love’s Labors Lost.  Brian previously ran the untitled theatre company which toured a short play dealing with interpersonal violence to schools and volunteer organizations, and he has worked at professional theatres in upstate New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Colorado, Florida and the United Kingdom. His research focuses on contemporary British theatre, particularly on the work of the Cherub Company in the UK and abroad between 1978 and 2003.  Brian has presented at conferences including “Subsidy, Patronage and Sponsorship” at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Mid America Theatre Conference and the American Society for Theatre Research conference on subjects related to British alternative theatre, North American indigenous drama, playwriting, and stage management.  He has published papers in Performing Arts Resources and the LMDA Sourcebook.  Brian is the current Associate Editor for the American Society for Theatre Research’s website, ASTR Online (www.astr.org).
