The Story & What the Critics Say
“During an ostentatious wedding reception, at a Knoxville, Tennessee estate, five reluctant, identically clad bridesmaids hide out in an upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason to avoid the proceedings below. As the afternoon wears on, these five very different women joyously discover a common bond in this wickedly funny, irreverent and touching celebration of the women's spirit.” -Dramatist Play Service, Inc.The Director
This semester’s production is directed by Theatre & Film Department Chair, Carrie Baker, the creative force behind Theatre UAF’s Stop Kiss (2015), Speech & Debate (2013), How I Learned to Drive (2009), and The Laramie Project (2008). This is her 7th Theatre UAF production as director since becoming a faculty member in 2005. Carrie has also directed for Opera Fairbanks, Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre, and Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra. Carrie is a stage and film actor (Actors’ Equity Association & Screen Actors Guild member), most recently seen as Sadness in Theatre UAF’s The Ash Girl and as Mary in the Hollywood feature film Mining for Ruby. The Cast
Our talented cast is comprised of newcomers to the Theatre UAF stage and performance veterans alike. Freshman Natilly Hovda plays Frances, “a painfully sweet but sheltered fundamentalist.” You may have seen Natilly’s acting in SDA’s 2016 Winter Shorts in The Stephen King Cameo. Theatre major Brandi Larson plays Mindy, “the cheerful, wise-cracking lesbian sister of the groom.” Brandi was last seen at Theatre UAF in the Spring 2016 production of Closer. Geologist & filmmaker Jill Shipman plays Georgeanne, “whose heartbreak over her own failed marriage triggers outrageous behavior.” Jill is involved in both the performing arts and scientific communities in Fairbanks and is interested in exploring the intersections between art and science. Sarah Williams plays Meredith, “the bride's younger sister whose precocious rebelliousness masks a dark secret.” Sarah Williams is a freshman Film and Performing Arts major and was last seen in the fall 2016 Winter Shorts production of Winter Conversation by Nancy Nguyen. Freshman Meghan Fowler plays Trisha, “a jaded beauty whose die-hard cynicism about men is called into question.” Meghan hails from North Pole where audience members may recognize her as Morticia Adams from last year’s High School production of The Adams Family Musical. Jared Olin has the distinction of playing the only male role, Tripp, “a charming bad-boy usher to whom there is more than meets the eye.” Jared is a UAF Film and Performing Arts major who has been seen in many UAF Film Club movies. The Performance Details

His first film was American Beauty, which was directed by Sam Mendes and won an Oscar for his screenplay. Ball’s Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning Six Feet Under ran for five hit seasons on HBO, garnering record-breaking ratings and critical acclaim throughout its run. His show True Blood had seven seasons on HBO and he is prepping The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks for Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films.” -Dramatists Play Service, Inc.The Design Team
